A disturbing video on Friday afternoon emerged online showing two policemen assaulting two young men in the premises of Fidelity Bank Plc in Lagos.

The said video was first posted on the popular blog, Instablog9ja.

It was gathered that the incident precisely happened at the Kola Bus Stop branch of the financial institution.

From the video, an official of Fidelity Bank was seen watching how the policemen believed to be guarding the bank were kicking and slapping the victims.

The incident angered some people who witnessed the assault as they were heard underground condemning the action of the security operatives.

But reacting to the video, Fidelity Bank, through a statement signed by its Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Mr Charles Aigbe, said the two persons being assaulted in the video were “shoulder surfing” to steal customer card details at the ATM.

“Our attention has been drawn to a social media video featuring an assault on two people at a Fidelity Bank branch in Lagos.

“The two individuals featured in the video were suspected of ‘should surfing’ to steal customer card details at the ATM. The security personnel on duty interceded and they attacked and injured him before the intervention of the mobile policemen who are seen in the video.

“No Fidelity Bank official ordered any violence against customers as alleged and there was no incidence of the branch ATM not dispensing cash.

“The matter has been reported to the police and the suspects have been handed over for prosecution.

“Fidelity Bank is customer-centric and we remain committed to providing easy and convenient banking and financial services in a safe environment for our customers and the banking public,” the statement said.
