Some operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) also known as the Department for State Services (DSS), on Wednesday took control of various points of the National Assembly.

According to information reaching us, the heavily armed DSS officials were spotted at various locations at the parliament wearing face masks.

It was not immediately certain why they were at National Assembly but feelers getting to us indicate they the security operatives are there to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

Recall that few days ago, some thugs invaded the upper chamber of the parliament and went away its symbol of authority, mace.

It took prompt intervention of the police command in Abuja to recover the mace less than 24 hours from the hoodlums.

The mace was picked up by the police under a flyover in the city.

The thugs were allegedly led inside the Senate by a lawmaker suspended from the red chamber, Mr Ovie Omo-Agege.

Senate President, Mr Bukola Saraki, who was away in the United States when the ugly incident happened, described it as an assault on democracy.

He then called for improved security within the premises of the National Assembly to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future.

It is believed that his call for more security resulted into the manning of strategic points of the parliament by the DSS today.
