Residents of Benue State have been advised to consider practising dry season farming because it was more profitable than the wet season farming.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, while launching the unified standard weights and measures for traders in the state on Tuesday, explained that his assertion was based on research.
“I want you to embrace dry season farming because according to research, it is more profitable than the wet season farming,” the Governor disclosed at the ceremony held in Makurdi, the state capital.
Benue State is known as the ‘food basket of the nation’ and it is very reputable for its international yam market at Zaki Biam.
Mr Ortom promised that his administration would continue to provide the enabling environment and support for agricultural production in Benue so as to boost food security in the state.
According to him, the unified standard weights and measures were initiated to protect the interests of farmers and consumers.
He noted that the unified standard weights and measures would go a long way to help farmers and buyers to get good value for their products and money respectively, while promising to ensure they were fully complied with.
