FG Condemns Attacks on Nigerians in India

The recent attacks on Nigerian students in India has been criticised by the Federal Government.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sola Enikanolaiye, has called for arrest and prosecution of culprits.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja, Mr Enikanolaiye said the attention of the Ministry was drawn to the attacks on some Nigerian students in Utter Predesh, India on Monday by a mob numbering over three hundred which left about nine Nigerians injured.

He appealed to the Indian authorities to ensure that perpetrators of the act were brought to book.

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Nagabushana Reddy, explained that the Indian Government has condemned the incident while five people have been arrested with two other culprits are still at large.

He said measures have been put in place to ensure that there was no repeat of the incident.

He said the Indian Government had high regards for Nigerians citizens and that the relationship it enjoined will not be jeopardised by a few people.
