Embattled Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Ms Jumoke Akindele, has resigned from the position, leaving Mr Malachi Coker representing Ilaje Constituency II in the House as the Acting Speaker.

Ms Akindele quit as Speaker on Monday after having issues with some members of the House.

Also today, some lawmakers in the House tendered their resignation letters. They include Mr Fatai Olotu, the Deputy Speaker; Mr Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, the majority leader; Mr Obadiah Vincent, the deputy majority leader; Ms Kemisola Adesanya, the chief whip; and Ms Towase Kuti, the assistant parliamentary secretary.

Recall that the Ondo Assembly had been engulfed in leadership crisis following the suspension of Ms Akindele, and others over an alleged N15 million fraud by some members of the House.

On Monday, after the resignation letter of Ms Akindele and others were read before the lawmakers, 13 out of the 26-member Assembly elected Mr Malachi as the Acting Speaker and Mr Ayodele Arowele as acting Deputy Speaker.
