Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has promised to install solar powered electricity in villages across the state.
Mr Ahmed made this disclosure last week at the monthly town hall meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Banquet Hall, opposite Government House, Ilorin.
He told the party faithful that villages with about 500 to 600 population would benefit from the pilot scheme of the project as part of effort to light up Kwara and improve its economy.
Governor Ahmed explained that the plan was to change strategy of providing electricity to communities in the state.
He noted that the government’s effort at providing transformers to communities was not yielding fruitful results due to epileptic power supply, pointing out that the solar powered electricity would guarantee electricity to rural communities in the state.
Governor Ahmed explained that the initiative would complement the ongoing Light Up Kwara project within the state capital and local government headquarters.
Mr Ahmed also announced that he has approved the release N900 million to contractors handling high value infrastructure projects across the state under its Infrastructure Development Fund (IFK).
He gave the assurance that with the IFK, projects will no longer be abandoned in the state as the scheme guarantees full funding of infrastructure across the state.
According to him, the forthcoming new Campuses for Kwara State University (KWASU) at Osi and Ilesha Baruba will also be funded under IFK.
