Chad's Faki Mahamat Emerges AU Commission Chairman

Chadian Foreign Minister, Mr Moussa Faki Mahamat, has been elected Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission by AU Heads of State and Government, who form the Assembly of the African Union.

Mr Mahamat was elected on Monday in a keenly contest at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Also, Ghana’s Ambassador, Mr Thomas Kwesi Quartey, has been elected Deputy Chairperson of the Commission.

Elections for the eight Commissioner posts are ongoing.
