DAFF, FAO Host Food & Nutrition Security Indaba

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will be hosting the Food and Nutrition Security Indaba from 26-27 January in Benoni, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

The overarching theme for the indaba will be “Attaining food and nutrition security for all, a multi-sectoral approach.”

The outcomes of the indaba will be integrated into the National Food and Nutrition Security Plan (NFNSP) and other various stakeholders’ national and provincial strategic plans for implementation. The proposed thematic areas to advance the food and nutrition security agenda of the country, as aligned to the strategic objectives of the NFNSP which will be discussed are:

    Governance and institutional arrangements for food and nutrition security;

    Establishment of inclusive local food value chains to support access to nutritious, affordable food;

    Expansion of targeted social protection measures and sustainable livelihoods programme;

    Scaling up of high impact nutrition-specific interventions targeting nutritionally vulnerable groups across the lifecycle;

    Development of an integrated communication plan;

    An integrated Risk Management system for monitoring food and nutrition security related risks and the development of a monitoring and evaluation system for food and nutrition security.

Members of the media are invited to the Indaba on January 26-27 by 8am–5pm on January 26 and 8:30am – 1pm on January 27, 2017 at the Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre, Benoni, Gauteng Province.
