On Monday, members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ekiti State Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the state Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

During the courtesy call, the herdsmen threw their weights behind the Ekiti State anti-grazing law, which was signed few months ago by the Governor.

The law came into place following attacks on communities in the state by cattle rearers, leading to deaths residents of Ekiti State.

During Monday’s visit, the association promised to support the Ekiti State government in making more effective its anti-grazing law.

The Miyetti Allah also promised to collaborate with the state government to rid the state herdsmen committing crimes in Ekiti State.

Sequel to this development, Mr Fayose had directed the suspension of activities of the Ekiti Anti-Grazing Enforcement Marshals (EGEM) till Thursday, November 3, a date scheduled for a meeting with all herdsmen in Ekiti State by 11am at the Government House in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

He said the suspension will enable the herdsmen move their cattle to designated locations in the state.
