A former House of Representatives member from Ondo State, Mr Gbenga Elegbeleye, has announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Elegbeleye tendered his resignation letter today to Ondo State chairman of the PDP through the Chairman of Akoko North East Local Government in Ikare-Akoko.

He said he was quitting the party due to personal reasons.

In his resignation letter titled ‘Resignation of my Membership of Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State’, Mr Elegbeleye said, “I write to inform you of the resignation of my membership of Peoples Democratic Party effective from the date indicated in this letter. This decision is personal and is without prejudice to the existing political situation in Ondo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party.

“I sincerely thank the party leaders at all levels for the relationship that existed between us all this while. Thank you, Otunba (Hon) Gbenga Elegbeleye.”

There are speculations that the former lawmaker may be gearing up to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of next month’s governorship election in the state.

Mr Elegbeleye, during his time at the National Assembly, was the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports. He was also a former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
