Senate Orders FAAN To Dub All Charges In Naira

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been directed to denominate all charges in local currency, Naira.

This order was given by the Nigerian Senate.

The move, the red chamber of the National Assembly explained, was to save the aviation sector from the current economic recession.

At the plenary on Thursday, the lawmakers appealed to the Federal Government to critically review the currency management systems in Nigeria so as to save the country from further woes making the economy breathe well.

The Senate said crisis in the aviation industry in Nigeria was becoming worrisome and urged the government to put up sustainable policies that will revive the sector.

Members of the Senate advised the government to make available funds to save some airlines from dying, noting that there was nothing wrong with that.

They however urged the government to critically check those to enjoy the buffers and put up structures to monitor their activities.

The Senate said airlines to get FG’s help must assured the government not to increase fares arbitrarily, but guarantee competitive ticket pricing within the regional market indication.

The lawmakers warned of the effect of allowing some airlines fold up, saying it would bring untold hardship to the workers, who are mostly Nigerians, and their families.
