Amosun Reads Riot Act To Labour Unions In Ogun

** Holds 2017 Budget Town Hall Meeting

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has warned labour movements and groups in the state to stop playing politics under the guise of agitation for improved welfare and condition of service.

He made this known at the 2017 budget town hall meeting held on Wednesday, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the state capital.

The town hall meeting had representatives of the different segments of the society, who were invited to contribute to the making of the 2017 budget process.

Mr Amosun said the era of playing politics under the guise of labour movement and agitation for improved welfare and condition of service was over and gone for good in Ogun State.

He advised those “interested in politics” to have the “courage and honour to resign and join the politicians.”

“This is in no way trying to abridge the right of our people to agitate for better or improved condition of living, but in doing so, we should allow reason, consideration for other stakeholders and general interest of the State to prevail. This is the only way to ensure the continued development of our dear State,” he explained.

The Governor, however, “acknowledged and commended the good people of Ogun State for the high level of understanding, support and cooperation that our administration has enjoyed ever since we assumed office. For all of these, I say a big thank you.”

He assured “all Stakeholders that we will continue to foster a healthy partnership and ensure that our people are involved in the implementation of our programmes, knowing fully well that, in the final analysis, we are accountable to you, the people.”

Mr Amosun said he will “remain unwavering in our commitment and service to the development of our State and the improvement in the living standards of our people.”

According to him, he would “love to be remembered mostly for establishing and sustaining a system-driven environment.”

He said “the people should have a say on issues that concern them and it was for this reason that we continue to ensure that our people take their rightful place in the governance process.”
