No fewer than 17 personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have been dismissed over issues relating to drug addiction, certificate forgery and others.

A statement signed by Mr Wale Adeniyi, Public Relations Officer of NCS on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Hameed Ibrahim Ali, also disclosed that the appointment of two other officers was terminated for absence from duty.

“Investigations into offences committed by the officers in the senior category are now being concluded. Officers found guilty are expected to face similar stiff penalties,” the statement issued on Sunday emphasised.

It explained that, “These disciplinary measures were taken after series of investigations and deliberations by the disciplinary committee and recommendations were made to the management.”

Mr Adeniyi concluded in the statement that, “This process is a continuation of the reform agenda the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) promised upon his assumption of office which emphasized discipline, good conduct and transparency.”
