FIRS Boss, Tunde Fowler, Elected ATAF President

Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr Babatunde Fowler, has been elected President of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).

Mr Fowler polled 11 votes to beat his Togolese opponent, who only managed to gather four votes.

At the exercise which took place on Wednesday in Pretoria, South Africa, a tax official from Mauritius was voted Vice-President of ATAF.

Also elected into the 10-country council were Burundi, Ghana, Liberia, Uganda and South Africa.

The 36 member-forum launched in 2009 in Uganda is made up of tax collecting agencies across Africa.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Fowler promised to expand the membership of the body.

The FIRS boss said, “Our goal shall be to aid the generation of revenue efficiently and sufficiently for the growth of all members.”

Mr Fowler was formerly in charge of the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS). It was his exploits in Lagos that got him the federal job.
