The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied threatening to embark on a warning strike on October 2, 2016.

Speaking on TVC Breakfast programme on Wednesday, Chairman of ASUU, UNILAG chapter, Dr Adelaja Odukoya, said there was no iota of truth in reports in the media that the union was gearing up for another round of strike action.

Dr Odukoya, during the programme monitored in Lagos by Business Post, described ASUU as a responsible body that is very sensitive to happenings in the country.

“I keep hearing you (presenter) say ASUU is going on strike on October 2nd. Let me correct that notion. The ASUU that I belong to has not decided or announced that it was going on an industrial action.

“Each time we go on strike, we are always at the losing end. We are a responsible body and I can tell you that we have not met to agree or order our members to go on strike.

“ASUU is meeting in October 2, where it would discuss different issues, including our 2013 agreement with the Federal Government, which they have failed to honour,” the UNILAG ASUU chairman said.
