The much-awaited iPhone 7 and 7Plus smartphones from Apple have finally been launched on Wednesday.

They are the company’s next generation smartphones with new improvements.

The iPhone 7, just like the 7Plus, is water resistant and also with two cameras.

It has a similar aluminium look, new pressure-sensitive home button and no headphone socket, a major feature some iPhones users doubted will accompany the new phone.

Instead, Apple replaced the 3.5mm headphone jack with a wireless headphone it called AirPods, which will cost $170 and be in the market in October 2016.

The phone comes with Apple’s latest iOS 10 software for iPhone and iPad with improved notifications and messaging features.

The new iPhone 7 and 7Plus have the Apple A10 Fusion, which gives faster and more powerful processors, replacing the A9 in iPhone 6S released in 2015.

On the battery lifespan, Apple hopes, on the average, that the iPhone 7 will deliver two more hours of battery life than the iPhone 6S.

One of the weak points of the iPhone, the home button, was improved on.

The company has now made the button tweaked to use a similar pressure-sensitive technology as Apple’s MacBook trackpads and the 3D touch screen of the iPhone 6S, which simulate movement using a small vibrating sensation when pressed without actually depressing.

The new button will allow further gesture control and could pave the way for the button to be removed entirely in subsequent versions of iPhones.

For Nigerians, they may have to wait a bit longer before the phones hit the country en masse. But for now, they may have to order online and wait for the iPhone 7 and 7Plus to be shipped to Nigeria. It is believed that the new phones will gulp about N300,000 to acquire.

The launch of iPhone 7 and 7Plus comes barely a week after Samsung made a global recall of its flagship Galaxy Note 7 due to faulty batteries.
