Boko Haram: Zenith Bank Gives Scholarship To 50 Orphans

Not fewer than 50 children orphaned by Boko Haram activities in Borno State have received scholarships to pursue their education.

The gesture was made by Zenith Bank Plc to celebrate the 50th birthday of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, who was once a management staff of the Bank.

The scholarship covers total fees for tuition, text books, note books, school bags, uniforms and school shoes for the next nine years.

According to the Bank, the beneficiaries will enjoy the grant from their pre-nursery school period in 2016 to 2025 when they are expected to have completed their primary school education.

Two drafts were handed over to the state government by officials of Zenith Bank in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The drafts, written in favour of Maiduguri Capital School, were received on behalf of the Governor by his spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, who coordinated the 50th anniversary reception organized by a group of friends, family members and political associates of his boss.

It was learnt that the total number of orphans who will be benefiting from scholarship in commemoration of Governor Shettima’s birthday has risen to 100.

Initially, a group of 30 friends, family members and political associates of Governor Kashim Shettima had at a reception awarded scholarship to 50 orphans with tuition, text books, note books, school bags, uniforms paid upfront to mark the Governor’s 50th birthday.

The brief reception, chaired by immediate past Kano State Governor, Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, was held on Monday, at the multi-purpose Hall of the Government House, in Maiduguri.
