Fayose Signs Anti-Grazing Bill Into Law

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has finally signed the Open Grazing Prohibition Bill into law. The bill is fondly called anti-grazing bill.

Mr Fayose signed the bill into law on Monday afternoon in the presence of more than 3,000 traditional chiefs.

The ceremony took place at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti.

Under the new law, herdsmen are prohibited from carrying arms. Also, movement of cows and other animals from one location to another is forbidden in the state.

According to the law signed by Mr Fayose, any herdsman who violates the open grazing prohibition bill risks six months imprisonment without an option of fine.

Also, based on the new law, any herdsman found with arms would be charged with terrorism by the state government.

Earlier this year, some herdsmen attacked a community in the state, killing some of the inhabitants.
