The level of education in Nigeria has been a source of concern to many people in the country. According to them, the level of education in the country is very low and this has been attributed to both the teachers and students.

While some believe that the quality of teachers being churned out from institutions is nothing to write home about, others say the students are no longer interested in educational activities.

Worried by these trends, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) says it is working hard to improve the level of education in the country.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, disclosed in Abuja recently that the Commission was strengthening its roadmap to ensure the training of more teachers in the country for the sustenance of quality basic education.

Dr Bobboyi, while speaking at an interactive with Executive Chairmen of States Universal Basic Education Boards, said more would be done to improve on its monitoring of grants for accountability and result.

He said the Commission was worried with the situation and was doing its best possible to see a positive turnaround.

The Dean, Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards, Mr Steven Alao, said most States were yet to access about 70 per cent of UBEC funds for the development of basic education in their respective states.

He appealed to the Chairmen of SUBEBS to work harmoniously with their States Governors to enable unhindered asses to the grants.
