This was made known by the organiser in a statement issued in Lagos and obtained by Business Post on Saturday.

According to Nigerian Breweries Corporate Affairs Adviser, Kufre Ekanem, intending interested journalists can still be part of the awards by submitting their entries ahead of the deadline.

He said already, entries have been received from across the country from pen pushers.

Mr Ekanem explained that the awards will reward journalists in three categories – the Golden Pen Reporter of the Year, Golden Pen Photo Journalist of the Year and Golden Pen Nigerian Breweries Report of the Year.

He said like the previous seven editions, the theme for this year’s edition is on Education, Youth Empowerment and Talent Development.

Mr Ekanem noted that the award was introduced to promote professionalism and objective reportage of events in Nigeria. It is also meant to reward such journalists who abide by the ethics of the journalism profession.

He said, “In March 2014, when we announced plans for the 6th Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Award, it was the beginning of the expanded platform that draws attention to critical development areas by rewarding journalists who excel in reporting in themed areas.”

Mr Ekanem also stressed that the previous editions had strengthened the credibility of the NB Golden Pen Awards because they have made it more inclusive and ensured an increased media buy-in.

The grand ceremony for this year’s awards which is the 8th in the series will hold on Friday October 28, 2016 in Lagos.
