The 2017 appropriation bill submitted to the Nigerian Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2016 has passed second reading.

Business Post correspondent reports that the 2017 budget scaled through the second reading at the plenary session on Thursday.

Consequently, the budget documents have been handed over to the Senate Committee on Appropriation for scrutiny.

During this time, the lawmakers will invite members of the executive to defend the budget and report back to the red chamber.

Already, the Senate has fixed the commencement of the budget defence process for next week.

In view of this, the Senate has adjourned plenary to February 21, 2017 to allow the committees work on the budget.
