By Dipo Olowookere

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has commenced its annual New Year fast for the year 2017, and it will hold for 40 days.

This year’s fast comes after the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, well-known as Daddy G.O., announced he was stepping down to pave way for Pastor Joseph Obayemi to lead the church in Nigeria.

According to Pastor Adeboye, the fast will kick off on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 accompanied with prayers and ends on Sunday, February 19, 2017.

On his official Facebook page, the respected cleric wrote, “Shalom beloved family. The RCCG Fasting begins 11th Jan to February 19th (40 days). From 12 midnight to 6pm. Praying twice a day. Morning at devotion and 5pm at the churches.

“If you want to do it day and night without breaking (just liquid) it will be for 20 days. Major prayer point will be praising God and asking God for Grace to please him in every way possible this year.”
