The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has advised Nigerians not to engage themselves in the purchase or sale of pre-registered SIM cards, warning that it is against the law and punishable too.

This advice was given at the Abuja International Trade Fair which held on October 7, 2016 at the J.T. Useni International Trade Fair Complex KM 8 Airport Road Abuja.

Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, who represented by the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Reuben Muoka, also said that the regulatory body was making endless efforts towards protecting, educating and informing the consumers on their rights as telecom consumers.

Prof Danbatta advised consumers to take advantage of the recent 2442 Do-Not-Disturb Short code launched by the Commission to combat unsolicited text messages and also the NCC’s 622 toll free customer care line.

The NCC boss noted that despite the current economic situation in the country, the telecoms industry has made positive growth.

According to him, as of August 2016, the number of active subscribers is more than 152 million and Nigeria’s Teledensity currently stands at above 107%.

He said the Commission would continue to record more successes.

During the trade fair, the Commission held it NCC Day.
